Brick walls keep dropping on our heads....
So I believe we have our first fatality from structures losing
their integrity in the city this past weekend. This lady was walking
along the Bowery in the Lower East Side and got smashed by a 150-sq. ft
chunk of brick that just happened to fall off a perfectly normal 90-yr-old
building. She was in critical condition for several days, and now she's
dead. I believe this is the 4th such incident in the city within the past
5 months.
I have a feeling that this will make it more and more difficult to
differentiate between tourists and city-dwellers. The tourists will keep
looking up to gawk at the buildings, the daily pedestrians will also be
looking up to insure that the sky is not falling. I think the main
difference will be a look of wonder vs. a glint of suspicion in the
viewers' eyes. So we'll be back to a study in detail.
In other news, I am now officially engaged to Stu, with a nice big
opal and some cute emeralds surrounding it. Unfortunately the cute little
emeralds seem to have a disagreement with my fingers, so I need to get
some supplies to quell the deceptively sweet beasts.
Don't expect invites anytime soon. It will take a couple of years
before I have knitted, crocheted, and cross-stiched all the decorations
and formal wear. I think 2-3 years ought to do it.
Anyway, that's all the news from the Little Ukraine/NYU Village
for right now.
Oh yes, meep's back on meat. Yum. Steak fajitas. Beef ravioli.
Waiting for Wednesday to buy some beefalo.
