2 October 1997
So I've been up four hours today (it's 8 am now), and I've done
enough/seen enough to report on the day.
"Two days in a row?" I hear the disbelieving crowd cry. "She must be on
crack." No, my friends, I am not for crack is wack. Indeed, I passed the
Crack is Wack playground (its official name, in official green, on the
official urban park service sign with oak leaf) in Harlem on my way back
here.
Rowing can make a person mean.
So what did we do today? I got to row starboard side (last time I was on
port... mmmm, port.... cheese?) We had to leave dock backing against the
current, ran _into_ the dock twice leaving it, went far out, I personally
caught 5 major crabs and had to swing the oar over my body while everyone
was rowing, we ran into a boat going out (side-swiped) and coming back we
swiped it so close that we got a rigging caught in the boat's anchor
ropes, coming in we had to dock with the current (more difficult than
backing out against the current) going back forth etc, and we almost ran
into shore. And we were so sloppy in putting the boat in. And we got
lost in Harlem on our way back because we had to drop a person off at
125th st.
However, today is Rosh Hashannah. I wonder how many New Year's
celebrations there are in a year? Well, there's the new liturgical year
of the church, Chinese New Year, Rosh Hashannah, regular New Year, there
must be some sort of Muslim New Year associated with Ramadan, fiscal new
year... hmmmm.
Time.
Which is a cafe near here.
So have a happy Rosh Hoshannah.
