20 March 2000... Happy Birthday to John
(Feliz Cumpleanos, Juan!)
Well, I gotta do this quickly for I am busy today (what's new?)
So let's see, after 6 months of good, healthy sleeping on the floor I'm
now sleeping on a real, live bed! woo! I've also got a nice big comfy
couch with accompanying coffee table and a Microsun. I saw an interesting
opera yesterday entitled =The Mother of Us All= by Virgil Thompson
(libretto by Gertrude Stein) about Susan B. Anthony. Very
different. Music was lovely, words were confusing, but perhaps that was
the point. Still, it definitely was better than Rigoletto.
That old man cursed me!
Stuart helped keep some guy's brain in his skull after this man attempted
to splatter his on his windscreen, while Stu & I were trying to figure
which way Queens Blvd ran during a snow flurry. I can just manage east &
west, but the orientation of the Blvds has got me so damned confused. I
can't tell if I'm heading for Brooklyn or Manhattan.
Um, anything more? Oh we dumped the crap the previous occupants so
thoughtfully left (though I'm still finding cigarette butts) and Stu is
starting the planning for revamping our cabinets. Um, and... and... I'm
judging at the Long Island Math Fair on Friday. And having lunch with a
prospective student on Thursday. And seeing people on the NCSSM list that
I have no idea who they are.
And being pissed that Stanford lost in the =2nd round=! To Carolina! I
picked those bastards to go all the way! Dammit, Duke was supposed to
lose to them! Anyway, I plan to watch the Academy Awards on Sunday just
because I heard Robin Williams will be singing "Blame Canada" from the
South Park movie... Did I mention I saw him up close & personal?
Back to the grind. Time to study French.
