Memorial Day 1999

It seems I will not (will not -> won't? one of those old english things,
besides, willn't sounds so ugly. then why not 'wo'? I wo take you to the
beach. I wo not take you to the zoo) be going to the anti-reunion at
Parizade. So that previous tale of a fizzy drink's mistaken identity will
have to do for an offering.

It's deader than a Sunday out there(probably because there's no church
services today). I can actually cross Broadway without waiting for the
light. I had a guitar lesson at 8 am today (where are my calluses, I
thought I was supposed to get calluses? This is one of the few days that
I'm glad I have a light typing touch (as well as a responsive mouse) - my
fingers just peel. No calluses.) I passed a group of young kids (aka
teenagers - or were they college kids? I could not say) on 2nd Ave.
Perhaps they hadn't gone to bed yet, for not even my mother the old
dawn-cracker herself was up when I called at 7:30 this morning.

Heard a funny story on npr this morning, about a Scottish bank getting in
deep doo-doo for trying some kind of business deal with Pat Robertson.
Seems Ole Pat knows how to offend people in foreign countries as well as
he does here. Clue #1 - Scotland is a place where English is generally
understood. Let's see, he pretty much accused Scottish Christians of
ignoring the Bible.

Now, if I recall (and I don't keep especially good track of American
televangelists), Robertson is of one of those "literalist" crowds in
Biblical theory. I just think literalism is odd in Christianity,
considering some of our most used statements from out Savior are clearly
fictional. Let's see, when God took human form, he spoke using figurative
language, metaphor, parable, etc. And now some think that when God
inspired men to write the Bible, he didn't use the same literary
techniques? I thought one of the major attributes of God the Father is
creativity (in the most basic sense of the word.) Must God makes his
point in simple, declaratory, non-fictive sentences everywhere? As Jesus
showed, sometimes the non-literal is what gets us closer to truth.

I'm just saying that ignorance is not a virtue.

Man, I'm tired. It's gonna be a scorcher.
