31 April 98
On a day that exists by my proclamation, I bring something that I did not
write. Written yesterday by Dan Hurley of the world's only 60-second
novelist.

WHO AM I TO DICTATE HOW GOD CREATED THE UNIVERSE?
Mary Pat is a Roman Catholic, a good ole Irish gal, who is two
years from getting her doctorate in mathematical neurobiology, a branch of
applied mathematics.
She studies how the eye processes the incoming photons and turns
them into vision.
She studies how the brain manages to stop hearing anything during
sleep.
It's all bizarre and incredible. Who knew that the brain would be
so complex as to be involved in math?
DOES THIS MEAN WE COULD USE OUR EYEBALLS TO CALCULATE HOW MUCH OF
A TIP TO PAY AT DINNER?
As a Catholic, Mary Pat has no problem with believing that
evolution created this incredible brain of ours. The Pope says it's OK
for Catholics to accept evolution as a theory. And as Mary Pat puts it:
"Who am I to dictate how God created the universe?"
Who knows, as a mathematical neurobiologist, maybe she really is
in charge. And will dictate.
Kinda scary.
