What first, what first, what first.
Well, last night I went out to see the new Star Trek movie, and I must say
it would have been a very good two or three episodes. And my, did
Jean-Luc look buff. And oh my, Brent Spiner is a handsome man. But that
is irrelevant. I just don't think it was worth $8.50 to see. However, we
did get to see about 10-15 minutes of previews. I would watch a show just
made of movie previews.
But I wouldn't pay $8.50 for it. Maybe $3 max. I'm generous.
It was a nice night outside last night. I really like this mid-40s
weather. It keeps me alert, but I dress so that only my face really gets
cold.
So this morning, I came into my office, got some easy homework problems
out of the way, then I headed off to the Met. I think I spent most of my
time in the Armor halls and the 20th century art rooms. Beauty, beauty
everywhere but ugly also to drink. The Tiffany stained glass windows and
glass mosaic fountain were gorgeous in a very real, superficial sense as
well as in the craftmanship behind it. I saw an intriguing sculpture
called "Lilith" of a woman crouching in bronze with glass eyes -- the most
interesting part is that she's crouching on the wall. There was also this
room of inlaid wood representing a study with cabinets full of esoteric
scientific instruments as well as mystical symbols -- it's called a
studiolo. Madonna, a piece by Dali that I had never seen before anywhere,
has a picture of the Madonna, but done as large dots so that you have to
stand far away to see it, and done in even larger dots, so you have to
stand even farther away, is an ear. Don't ask me.
I had an interesting personal experience of my own: after walking up two
flights of stairs, my heart was pounding so hard I could see it -- in my
eyes. My eyes were pulsing. I don't think that's a good thing. My heart
had better behave itself.
Then I went to Barnes & Noble to purchase some much-needed books. And now
I'm back at 3 o'clock, and hardly anybosy's here. Hmmm. Maybe they
haven't gotten up yet. Or, the more likely possibility, perhaps they have
better things to do.
Which reminds me, I have better things to do.
