...And a good time was had by all.....
Anyway, Brad and Barb showed up on Friday, as they always meant to (and I
always thought they were coming on Thursday. =doh=) We wandered lonely
as a cloud...went to the farmer's market, wandered down Broadway and went
to this place that has the largest fucking burgers you ever seen. And I
mean that. Ask Barbie. Then I dropped them off back at my place so that
they could nap the nap of the just.
(They also arrived 4 hours late...I had to go to Grand Central Station to
meet Zoe, Barb's old flatmate, whom I've never met before. And Zoe didnt
know I was coming to meet her. However, I knew another thing that Zoe
dind't know -- the cafe she thought she was meeting Barbie at was no more.
There is nothing in Grand Central Station right now except ticket offices
and scaffolding. I found her, anyway.)
Then I went to a Courant Institute grad student gathering...beer & pizza,
how could I stay away? I heard that the Courant's Christmas party
involves an open bar...this is _alot_ different from university parties at
State. So jabbered, jabbered, jabbered...munched, munched, munched. I
spawned an idea that I hope people forget (The Babes of Courant Calendar).
And then the nighttime wandering began in earnest. We started at Tsunami,
which had this cute little moat-thing with bamboo boats with sushi
platters on them. And we wandered, wandered into a sex shop that had
pretty displays but a pathetic selection compared to Castle Video,
wandered into a TCBY, wandered into a bar playing Tainted Love and watched
the hetero trash mating scene being enacted at the next couch/chair over.
Then we wandered down Stonewall Place, and noticed that there really isn't
much there now. We ended up on 7th Ave and passed this intriguing
restaurant with a very strange decor. I'll have to sheck it out someday.
We got back to my room at 1:30 because I was tired; it seemed the social
scene in the Village was just revving up right then.
I took Saturday off. Barbie went to Woodstock with Zoe. Brad went off
doing Brad things and saw Riverside Park. I slept. and slept. It was a
good sleep.
Sunday was church, and eating, and saying bye to Brad and Barb, and going
for a 5-hr dinner date with my relatives and various friends. So we sat,
watched TV, went to the restaurant, drank at the bar, got our table after
at least an hour, drank some more, ate ate had a really cool lemon sorbet.
I was well fed. Got back about 1:20, got to sleep around 2.
So I was up at 7 this morning, and over at the church at 7:30 to help
prepare the soup kitchen. I might go back later to serve or clean up,
depending how long I sleep after I get back to my bed. I scooped slaw and
bagged cookies. I can smell fried chicken...oh Lord... Anyway, today is
Yom Kippur, so no Complex Variables this morning, so I AM GONE.
